To be able to not only create a likeness, but also capture the character of a person, and in return evoke an emotional response within the viewer, is in my view the highest form of artistic accomplishment. To me, painting is more than just an image or a “moment captured in time”. It’s about the living aspect, the concept, the idea, the hopes and fears, from the conception through the creation process and the appreciation of creating.
Art is about breathing life onto paper or canvas and creating an “Adam”.
Marco Louis Kuhn initially started working in the furniture retail industry after matriculating, he worked in this industry for 9 years. In 2011 he decided to move to Klerksdorp and embark on a journey to become a full time artist.
He had started drawing when he was 12 years old and only started painting in 2011. Marco loves art history and always seems to seek inspiration from the old masters. Although he has experimented with various mediums, he has chosen pencil, pastel and oil paints as his preferred mediums of choice.
Marco Kuhn had been studying and practicing art, specifically drawing and painting, for 15 years. During his training, Marco fell in love with art and this love is manifested in his desire to teach art to children and adults. His passion for art can also be seen in his artwork.
At the moment Marco is an art teacher, presenting weekly classes in various mediums and methods, as well as various subject / method based workshops ranging from 3 to 5 days. He also teaches art to inmates at the Matlosana Correctional Services on a weekly basis.
Marco is the newly appointed representative for the development of visual arts in Klerksdorp by the PACC (Provincial Arts and Culture Council). He is also a member of SASA (South African Society of Artists) and SANAVA (South African National Association for the Visual Arts).
